3 Powerful Tools For New Vegans

Vegans rock.

But you knew that.

Yet, becoming fully plant-based and vegan can take time.

There's also a few challenges you'll end up facing (plus some interesting conversations with family members who think you're cuckoo).

Reflecting on my vegan journey over the past few years I thought about how I became vegan.

I didn't understand why so many people had trouble becoming vegan or plant-based.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that I had several tools that helped me during my transition.

With this in mind, there’s 3 important tools which can help your vegan transition become even easier.

  1. Support system
  2. Positive Wins
  3. Belief

Support System

Having a strong support system that you can rely on as you transition into a vegan lifestyle can be a phenomenal tool to have when you're creating nutritional changes in your diet.

You truly are the result of the people who are closest to you.

Although it’s possible to become vegan without support, it sure does become easier with a good support system.

Creating this support system gives you a cushion to rely on when days are tough. It also gives you a positive feedback loop which can speed up your vegan growth.

By surrounding yourself with those who have already made their own vegan transition and spending quality time with your community, you’ll begin to find yourself modeling yourself on your peer’s behaviors.

This helps create a successful transition.

According to research from NLP (neuro linguistic programming) strategies, modeling has been proven to dramatically transform your habits and thoughts as you begin to associate yourself with new behaviors and thinking patterns.

It’s also one of the most natural learning strategies that we use as human beings.

Create the right support systems.

This is turn can improve your vegan transition and make things much easier.

Positive Wins

Celebration is often overlooked when creating new changes in our lives.

Yet, without celebrating the small wins and creating a positive feedback loop that supports our growth, long-term progress isn't guaranteed.

Rather it takes consistent celebration from noticing the small behavioral changes of adding more veggies to your meals, to celebrating when your meal has more whole foods, to doing a jig when you realize your entire meal came from plant-based sources.

  • These are the moments that need to be celebrated.
  • The moments that build upon each other and slowly stack up.

Day after day, meal after meal, the consistent progress begins to accumulate until one day you notice that your transition into veganism is complete.

Celebrate each meal, each bite, because every single moment counts.

Belief

Sometimes it takes more than sheer willpower and rigid discipline to bring about the results that we desire in our lives.

It takes a deeply rooted belief to help us change.

By taking the time to search within ourselves, we can begin to analyze and see for ourselves what our true beliefs are regarding different areas of our life.

For example, we can look at our belief of nutrition.

Do we truly believe that eating a plant based diet and becoming fully vegan is beneficial for yourself and all beings?

Or do we believe that eating an omnivorous diet may be more beneficial for our lives?

There is no right or wrong answer here.

The only answer that matters is the one that is right for you.

As you listen, remember to let all judgements go and just examine what comes up.

Use these checkpoints to help improve your chances of making a successful transition into plant-based eating.
