5 Key Mentalities To Adopt and Win Back Your Health
Mar 18, 2024Do your thoughts matter?
Or is this just new-age hype?
From my experience doing inner work the past decade and coaching 100’s of humans worldwide the past 8 years - it’s not hype.
Our thoughts do influence our actions.
Especially our health & fitness actions.
As someone who used to sneer at the idea of having a ‘positive attitude’, I’ve learned that having the right beliefs are important.
And they can accelerate your fitness progress like nothing else.
So here’s 5 key beliefs that you can adopt and see faster results each week:
#1.) 1% growth each day (kaizen)
Kaizen is the Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement.
Every day builds upon each other.
Like blocks of legos.
Kaizen is the approach of true progress = 1% better per day.
If you compound this over a year, you’ll be 37% better by the end of the year.
What would your life look like after 12, 18, 24+ months of being 37%, 50%, or 75% enhanced and improved?
Only you hold the answer to this.
#2.) Progress over perfection
In the West (and most parts of the world), perfectionism and ALWAYS being your best are valued highly.
Being ‘weak,’ ‘vulnerable,’ ‘having bad days,’ and not always being ‘perfect’ is looked down upon.
This has created a race of humans who struggle to make any meaningful momentum in their lives.
To release this and create a new belief, the idea of progress is tied directly to kaizen.
When you focus on PROGRESS over perfection each day, you create forward momentum.
Rather than having a ‘perfect’ workout, you just work out (imperfectly).
Rather than focusing on eating a ‘perfect’ meal, you do your best to eat a healthy meal (imperfectly).
The recurring theme here is to strive for progress every day.
And as a reminder, failure = feedback.
The more feedback you have, the closer you get to success.
#3.) My best days come after my worst days
There will be good days. And bad days. And often, your best days will come after your worst days.
Have you ever had a bad workout?
A bad meal? A bad week?
Most people quit and throw in the towel here.
Rather, focus on the first two key mentalities and get back on track.
Your BEST workouts, meals, sleep, habits, and mindset will often emerge when you develop persistence and determination.
Many of us have untapped potential that we never fully use because we quit on ourselves.
Yet, nobody starts ANYTHING with the intention of quitting shortly afterward.
Just got married? (can’t wait to quit…)
Just started a new fitness program (can’t wait to quit…)
Just started a new career or business? (can’t wait to quit…)
No one says this.
Yet nearly everyone quits.
Know that your best days will ALWAYS come after your worst if you have faith in yourself and stay determined.
#4.) Winning streaks (3-day streaks)
A winning streak is 3 or more days of consistent habit completion.
3 days or more of workouts.
3 days or more of meals tracked or healthy meals.
3 days of good sleep and stress management.
The list goes on.
Especially in the beginning of your health & fitness journey, winning streaks are a powerful asset to have.
And aiming for a 2-week winning streak is a great target to have for yourself.
Build momentum, consistency, and persistence in your health.
Stay focused on one day at a time.
And start to build your first winning streak.
#5.) Full ownership and responsibility
One of the most powerful statements you can make?
“I AM responsible for my life.”
You become a different person when you take full ownership and responsibility for your life, health, body, mind, and growth.
It’s no longer someone else’s fault.
It’s not your coach’s fault.
Your family’s fault.
Your friend’s responsibility.
Your dog’s fault.
Your kid’s responsibility.
Or your job or work’s fault.
It’s your responsibility; everything changes when you take ownership of your life and health.
Make a commitment RIGHT NOW and declare on paper that moving forward your life, health, and body are YOURS to take care of.
This is one of the greatest gifts that you’ll give to yourself.
Which belief are you committed to adopting this week - tap reply and let me know. 🙂
